A local thermal procedure used in cases of chronic joint and muscle diseases, sometimes also for post-traumatic recovery or simply for the muscle relaxation, for example before a massage or therapeutic exercises.
The procedure has an anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect. Warmth reduces muscle tensions, dilates blood vessels in the skin and subcutaneous tissue, improves reflectively blood circulation deeper in the muscles and joints and reduces pain. A combination of natural mineral wax and paraffin is used for applications at the temperature of 39-42ºC. The adding of mineral wax to the paraffin keeps the mixture warm for a longer timer and the essential oils in mineral wax have a therapeutic effect.
Contraindications
This procedure is not reccomended during pregnacy and to people who are intolerant of warmth or have acute inflammatory diseases. This may cause exacerbation of a chronic joint disease.
